In this review, I’ll take a deep dive into the BOBOVR E3 Pro head strap for Meta Quest. This post is inspired by the last video in my E3 Pro playlist, and my goal is to help you decide if this strap is the right choice for you.

This post is an extract of my entire testing experience with the BOBOVR E3 Pro documented on my YouTube channel. Although BOBOVR sent me the E3 Pro free of charge, I'm not sponsored by them, so everything here is 100% my unbiased opinion.

Compatibility with Meta Quest 3 & 3S

One of the coolest things about the E3 Pro is that it works with both Meta Quest and Meta Quest 3 headsets. Surprisingly, Meta did not change how the strap arms attach to the Quest 3. This means BOBOVR can make one strap that fits both devices, which is a big advantage.

Another standout feature is that the E3 Pro is the first product from BOBOVR to make it into the Made for Meta program. The Made for Meta program is relatively new and essentially symbolises Meta's seal of approval that the product meets their standards & requirements when it comes to creating accessories for their products. I could imagine gaining entry to the program was a fairly big deal for BOBOVR as a brand further solidifying their presences in the VR/MR space.

Comfort and Design

I used the M3 Pro for a long time, and its halo design was very comfortable. When I first saw the E3 Pro, I was concerned about the heavier battery. But after trying it on, I was blown away by how well BOBOVR managed the weight.

Elite-Style vs. Halo Design

The E3 Pro switches from the halo design to an Elite-style approach. Although I was initially worried, the extra supports and improved weight distribution made it super comfortable. I tested it with Mini Putt Putt, Thrill of the Fight, Beat Saber, and Superhot. I hardly needed to adjust it during those active sessions.

Full Hinge Rotation

A major plus is the full hinge rotation. Unlike other straps that only rotate partway, the E3 Pro’s hinges go all the way down, allowing you to customize the fit perfectly to your head shape.

Flat Back Design

The new flat back design is fantastic for all kinds of VR experiences. Whether you are standing, sitting, or even lying down during a VR meditation session with the Tripp app, the strap stays comfortable. The click wheel has been repositioned inside the bracket, so the back remains smooth and pressure-free.

Battery Life: The B100 Advantage

Battery life is the number one reason many of us upgrade our head straps. The E3 Pro features a new B100 battery with a 10,000mAh capacity, which is double the old 5200mAh. That translates to around 3 to 4 extra hours of gameplay.

Testing for Up to 4 Hours

I put the E3 Pro to the test in several gaming sessions on YouTube and logged a total of 240 minutes and 35 seconds, almost exactly 4 hours. This performance aligns perfectly with BOBOVR’s claims.

Extended Play Options

If you want even more freedom, you can purchase a second battery and swap it during your session. With the Quest 3’s internal battery adding about 2 extra hours, you could potentially get up to 6 hours of playtime.

Additional Features and Little Touches

The E3 Pro comes with several thoughtful details:

Headphone Jack: Especially useful for Quest 3S users who miss having a dedicated audio port.
Battery Display Screen: Shows the exact battery percentage, which is super helpful for managing your gaming sessions.
Matte Finish: The E3 Pro’s premium matte finish looks better than the glossy finish of the M3 Pro.
Velcro Tab and Latches: The strap is very intuitive to attach and remove.

A Few Drawbacks

No product is perfect. Here are a few things I noticed:

Cabling: The cables aren’t as neatly integrated as on some competitor straps.
Hinge Rigidity: The hinges can feel a bit stiff when adjusting, which might be a slight annoyance.
Carrying Case Compatibility: The E3 Pro does not fit in the standard Meta Quest 3 carrying case. You’ll need BOBOVR’s dedicated C3 case or another third-party option.
Price: It’s nearly twice the cost of the M3 Pro, which might be a concern if you’re on a tight budget.
